33rd Lower Saxony Port Day at the seaport of Brake
On 5 September 2025, the seaport of Brake hosted the 33rd Lower Saxony Port Day – a major industry event that attracted around 270 guests from politics, business, administration and the media to the Wesermarsch region. The event was organised by Seaports of Lower Saxony, while J. MÜLLER was responsible for the organisation at the Brake site.
Exclusive business meeting with Minister for Economic Affairs Tonne
Early in the morning, J. MÜLLER invited Lower Saxony's Minister for Economic Affairs, Grant Hendrik Tonne, to an exclusive business meeting in Silo 6. The focus was on the current economic situation, the challenges facing the port industry and key issues for the future, such as port expansion, the adjustment of the Weser shipping channel and the need for reliable planning security.
Official kick-off in the marquee
The official Port Day began at 10:30 a.m. in the marquee at the inland port. After a welcome by Inke Onnen-Lübben, Managing Director of Seaports of Lower Saxony, Brake's mayor Michael Kurz spoke about the importance of the port as an economic driver for the region. In his keynote speech, Minister Grant Hendrik Tonne outlined the opportunities and risks of the current global economic situation and announced investments of 375 million euros in Lower Saxony's ports – a strong signal for security of supply and competitiveness.
Panel discussion: ‘Foreign trade in transition’
In the panel discussion, Minister Tonne, Marie-Aude Boulier (Oldenburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce), Dr Michael Harms (German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations) and Jan Müller discussed ‘Foreign trade in transition’. The main topics included:
- Consequences of geopolitical developments
- Sustainable port infrastructure

Port tours and networking
In addition to the professional exchange, networking was also a key focus. Guests had the opportunity to experience the port up close: the port tour guides delighted participants with an informative one-hour tour of the seaport of Brake.

Port Day 2025 impressively demonstrated that the seaport of Brake is not only a high-performance transhipment hub, but also a central meeting place for politics, business and society – and once again proved itself to be the perfect host.
